What You Get
What GEO Work Covers
Four pieces, built on top of technical SEO. Skip the first and the other three do not matter.
AI Crawler Access
robots.txt, CDN and firewall rules checked against Googlebot, OAI-SearchBot, PerplexityBot, Bingbot and Claude's crawlers — and content that is readable without JavaScript.
Answer-First Content
Question headings, a direct answer in the first lines, and specific, dated facts — so one passage can be quoted without the rest of the page.
Entity & Fact Consistency
Your name, address, services, founder and prices stated the same way on your site, schema, Google Business Profile and listings — so AI answers get them right.
AI Visibility Tracking
Search Console, Bing's AI Performance report, AI referrals in GA4, and a fixed set of buyer questions checked in each AI tool every month.
What is GEO, and what do AI search optimisation services do?
GEO (generative engine optimisation — or optimization) is the work of getting a business found and described correctly in answers written by AI — Google's AI Overviews and AI Mode, ChatGPT search, Microsoft Copilot, Perplexity, Gemini and Claude. Those tools do not show ten blue links. They write an answer and cite a few sources, so the question is no longer only “do I rank?” but “am I one of the sources, and is what it says about me true?”
I am Abhishek Sharma, a freelance SEO consultant and web developer in Faridabad, Delhi NCR. My GEO work does four things: makes sure AI crawlers can actually read your site, makes your business facts consistent everywhere an engine might look, rewrites your key pages so a passage can be quoted on its own, and tracks what AI tools say about you every month. It is delivered inside the same retainers as my SEO work, from ₹15,000 per month.
One thing up front: GEO sits on top of SEO, not beside it. Google states that there are no additional requirements to appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode beyond being indexed and eligible for a snippet. Anyone selling GEO as a replacement for SEO is selling you the wrong thing.
How is GEO different from SEO?
Mostly in emphasis. Technical health, relevant content and authority still decide whether you are eligible at all. What changes is how the result is used: a search engine sends a click to your page, an AI answer may quote you and send no click, or send one visitor who has already decided.
| Area | Classic SEO | What GEO adds |
|---|---|---|
| Crawlers | Googlebot and Bingbot | OAI-SearchBot, PerplexityBot, Claude's crawlers — each allowed or blocked separately |
| Unit of success | A ranking page | A quoted passage and a correct description of your business |
| Content shape | Pages built around a keyword | Sections that answer one question each and still make sense quoted alone |
| Off-site signals | Backlinks | Links plus unlinked mentions, reviews and consistent listings |
| Measurement | Rankings, clicks, impressions | Bing AI citations, AI referrals in GA4, monthly checks of real buyer questions |
Which AI search engines does GEO cover?
Each engine finds and reads websites in its own way. This is how they work as of October 2026 — the details change, so the audit always checks them again.
Google AI Overviews & AI Mode
Built on Google Search's own index. Google says there are no extra requirements: a page has to be indexed and eligible to show with a snippet. Clicks and impressions are counted in Search Console's normal Web report.
ChatGPT search
OpenAI's OAI-SearchBot decides whether your pages can appear. GPTBot is a separate crawler used for training, and blocking it does not remove you from ChatGPT search.
Microsoft Copilot
Draws on the Bing index. Bing Webmaster Tools now has an AI Performance report that shows when your pages are cited in Copilot answers — one of the few direct sources of AI citation data available.
Perplexity
Crawls with PerplexityBot and shows its sources openly beside every answer, which makes it the easiest engine to check by hand.
Gemini
Google's assistant. The Google-Extended rule in robots.txt controls whether your content is used for Gemini; it does not affect Google Search or AI Overviews.
Claude
Anthropic runs separate crawlers for training and for search. As with OpenAI, you can allow one and block the other.
What does GEO work actually involve?
1. Make sure AI crawlers can read the site
Check robots.txt, the CDN and the firewall against each engine's crawler — some security settings block AI crawlers without anyone deciding to. Then check what a crawler actually receives: several major AI crawlers fetch the raw HTML and do not run JavaScript, so content that only appears after scripts load can be invisible to them. As a developer I fix this in the code rather than writing it up as a recommendation.
2. Make your business facts consistent
AI answers are assembled from many sources. If your website, schema markup, Google Business Profile, directory listings and LinkedIn disagree on your name, address, services or prices, the answer is either wrong or leaves you out. I make one set of facts and make every source say the same thing.
3. Rewrite key pages answer-first
Question-shaped headings, a direct answer in the first two or three sentences, then the detail. Specific facts with dates and units, short tables where a comparison helps, and each section able to stand on its own — because an AI answer quotes a passage, not a page.
4. Earn mentions where AI engines look
Engines lean on what other sites say about you: reviews, industry directories, publications, comparison articles and genuine discussion. The work here is ordinary, honest PR and link earning — never fake reviews and never planted forum posts.
5. Measure, then adjust
A fixed list of the questions your buyers ask, checked in each AI tool every month and recorded with screenshots, alongside Search Console, Bing's AI Performance report and AI referral traffic in Google Analytics 4. You see what changed, not a single made-up visibility score.
How do you rank in ChatGPT and other AI answers?
There is no ranking position in ChatGPT to buy or climb. When ChatGPT searches the web, it reads pages its search crawler (OAI-SearchBot) is allowed to fetch, picks a few that answer the question well, and cites them. So “ranking in ChatGPT” comes down to being one of those few sources — and being described correctly when you are.
In practice that means, in order:
- Be readable. OAI-SearchBot allowed in robots.txt and not blocked by your CDN or firewall, with the important text in the HTML rather than loaded later by JavaScript.
- Rank in ordinary search. ChatGPT search, Copilot and Perplexity lean on web search results, so pages that rank well in Google and Bing are far more likely to be picked up.
- Answer the exact question. A heading that matches how buyers ask, a two- or three-sentence direct answer, then specifics — prices, locations, timelines, dates.
- Be described the same way everywhere. Your website, Google Business Profile, directories, LinkedIn and reviews should agree on who you are and what you do.
- Be mentioned by others. Reviews, industry listings and articles that name you give an AI engine a reason to trust the claim.
Then check: ask ChatGPT the questions your buyers ask, every month, and record whether you are named and whether the details are right. That is the only honest measure of “ranking” there is today.
Is AEO the same as GEO?
Close enough that the work overlaps almost entirely. AEO (answer engine optimisation) is the older term, coined for featured snippets and voice assistants — getting your page chosen as the answer. GEO is the newer term for answers that AI writes from several sources, such as Google's AI Overviews and ChatGPT search. Both reward the same things: clear question-and-answer content, structured data that matches the page, and consistent facts about your business.
If an agency in India quotes you separately for SEO, AEO and GEO, ask what each one would change on your website. The answers will mostly be the same list.
What GEO claims should you be wary of?
AI search is new enough that a lot is being sold on fear. These are the things I will not sell you, and you should be careful of anyone who does:
- Guaranteed citations in ChatGPT, AI Overviews or any other AI answer
- llms.txt or an "AI file" presented as a ranking factor — Google says none is needed
- Hundreds of AI-written articles published to look busy
- Fake reviews, paid fake mentions or planted Reddit and Quora posts
- A proprietary "AI visibility score" you cannot check yourself
On llms.txt specifically: this site has one, because it takes a few minutes to write and does no harm. But Google says you do not need new machine-readable files or AI text files to appear in its AI features, and no major engine has said it ranks sources by one.
Is GEO worth paying for in your case?
Usually worth it
- Buyers research and ask questions before they buy
- Professional services, B2B, healthcare, education
- Travel and hospitality — guests ask assistants to plan trips
- Your category is explained in AI answers today
- Your site already has a sound SEO foundation
Probably not yet
- Your site is not indexed properly — fix SEO first
- Customers only ever search your brand name
- You sell purely on price in a commodity market
- You need leads this month — run ads first
Who are you doing GEO for right now?
UJ Pallazzio, a business-class hotel in Tiruvannamalai, Tamil Nadu. I built its direct-booking website and, since September 2026, run a monthly retainer that combines SEO and GEO with maintenance and marketing. Its guests are largely pilgrims who plan the trip by asking questions — how far the hotel is from Arunachaleswarar Temple, when Karthigai Deepam falls, how Girivalam works — which is exactly the kind of search AI assistants now answer.
The GEO side of that retainer keeps the hotel's facts consistent across its website, Google Business Profile and listings, and publishes guides that answer those pilgrim questions directly. No figures are published yet: the work began in September 2026, and early numbers would tell you nothing.
How much do GEO services cost?
GEO is part of the same monthly retainers as SEO — same prices, same no-lock-in terms. What changes is where the hours go. Need only a one-time GEO audit your own team can act on? That is quoted after I have reviewed your site, because the work depends on its size and how it is built.

Where are you based, and do you work remotely?
I work from HNO 1198, Sector 16A, Faridabad, Haryana 121002, India. You can reach me on +91 70489 83936, Monday to Saturday, 10:00 to 19:00 IST.
GEO is remote work. Current clients include a hotel in Tamil Nadu and a household staffing agency in New York, and businesses across Delhi NCR can meet in person when it helps. If you are local, the city pages for Delhi, Gurgaon, Noida and Faridabad cover local search, which AI answers about local businesses draw on heavily — as does a well-kept Google Business Profile.
